Indian Organic Cashew Value Chain
The project "Indian Organic Cashew Value Chain" was formally launched on 28th of Feb-2011 by Director of Agriculture, Government of Goa, in presence of all the stakeholders. After inception of Steering Committee, its first meeting was held on 1st of March-2011 under the chairmanship of Dr. Gerolf Weigel, Counsellor - Climate Change and Development, Embassy of Switzerland, India.
The main objectives of the project are to develop the organic cashew value chain through mobilisation of the small and marginal farmers, forming producer companies, development of internal control systems, facilitating the certification process, handholding support for the management of the producer company and ensuring market linkage.
Project location: South Goa and Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts of Maharashtra

Sustainable production of Organic and Fair trade rice in India and Thailand funded by COOP
Intercooperation has been engaged to manage the Organic and Fair trade Basmati rice in India. Under the thematic guidance of the representative of HSIC Bern and administrative supervision of CEO ICSD India, an Indian Project Coordinator of ICSD based in India (headquarter in Hyderabad) is coordinating and managing the project's multifaceted activities.
The main objectives of the project are to increase and secure farm incomes from rice-based agriculture, to improve their food security and adaptation capacities to climate change, to increase water efficiency, reduce and off-set greenhouse gas emissions and increase biodiversity, and to reliably supply high-quality certified rice. This involves organizing the farmers, leading them to form producer companies, internal control systems for fair trade practices and handholding support to make them sustainable. It is for the traditional basmati rice growing areas of Northern India., started with Ramnagar district.

Empowering Gram Panchayats for improved planning and service delivery with present focus on Water & Sanitation services using the Water Use Master Plan (WUMP) approach:
The goal of the project is to empower Gram Panchayats with skills and resources to plan and implement local development initiatives for poverty reduction as a pilot for large scale replication. The project is funded by Arghyam Trust.

Enhancing the socio-economic status of women for additional income and improved local governance-Gulbarga and Bidar districts of Karnataka:
This project seeks to build on two SDC supported programmes – (i) ISPWDK, where women Community Resource Persons (CRPs) successfully supported income generation activities of poor women and (ii) an on-going partnership with Bonthi Gram Panchayat to improve the planning and utilisation of government funds for poverty reduction. This add-on project trains women CPRs in 4 Panchayats to support women Panchayat members, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and poor women use Panchayat funds, self generated savings and bank loans for improved incomes and socio-economic status of women in a sustainable manner.

National Case Study on Decentralisation and Equity in Child Rights:
UNICEF South Asia Regional Office is carrying out a study on Decentralisation and equity in Child rights and the Intercooperation has been entrusted with the task of carrying out the India part of the study.
Intercooperation has facilitated the preparation of the SAPCC for the state of Sikkim.
This task was initiated in July 2010 and completed by early of 2011. The contract is awarded by GIZ. Our team members participated in discussions with the MoEF, GOI, state governments and donors in the design of the action plan framework based on which the Sikkim sectoral and state action plans were prepared.
Intercooperation is also in the final stages of facilitating the preparation of the SAPCC for the state of West Bengal and is expected to be completed by end of September 2011. Thus, Intercooperation would bring firsthand experience of facilitating such a process to this task which would shorten the learning curve. The lessons relating to process facilitation shall be gainfully utilized to improve the efficacy of the process to the advantage of the state partners as well as GIZ.
Intercooperation was engaged by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) to undertake a study on Artificial Insemination (AI) service delivery in 9 sample states of India. The key aspects covered in this study were:
- Availability of quality AI services in different regions of the sample states.
- Genetic improvement through natural service and its performance in sample states.
- Understanding the technology, operational guidelines and institutional policies used by various service providers for AI services.
- The quality of human resources and processes used for its development for AI service provision.
- Systems used by various service providers for input supply and for service charges.
- Monitoring systems in place.
- The regulatory framework under which services are provided in different states.
Intercooperation undertook a study under the guidance and support from UNDP India on 'Value Chain Analysis and Business Development Plan in Livestock, Fisheries and Agriculture Sectors for Women's Empowerment in Jaunpur, Mirzapur and Sant Ravidas Nagar of Uttar Pradesh' . The field study was undertaken current value chains in the agriculture, livestock and fisheries sector that engage women and develop a long list of potential value chains; from the long list, based on economic relevance and market feasibility, conduct an in depth study of two sub-sectors where women would gain maximum profitability and competitive advantage; finally, in the two identified sub-sectors, prepare up-gradation plans for bringing higher benefits to women.
