Welcome to Intercooperation India
Intercooperation has been working in India since 1982, as a project management and implementation partner of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, SDC. Our early experience focused on the livestock and dairy sector. Intercooperation provided technical expertise and helped establish a series of bilateral projects with state governments in Kerala, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Sikkim. The collaborations have been marked by a high degree of mutual trust and recognition of Intercooperation's thematic competencies. They created a strong base for expanding our partnerships to other sectors and with other civil society organisations.
Intercooperation now works with governments, technical and research organisations, NGOsand Community Based Organisations (CBOs) on initiatives in natural resource management for sustainable livelihoods.
In all our work we seek to support gender balanced, equitable development, focusing on the poor and marginalized. |

Livestock Service Reforms in AP
CALPI (SDC/IC) - PPLPI (FAO) Initiative |
Rupa Mukerji and Dr A K Joseph participated in the South – South Dairy Symposium organised by the International Livestock Research Institute (www.ilri.org) and the Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) in December 2009. The symposium -- Opportunities for transforming the informal sector in emerging dairy markets -- took place at ILRI's Nairobi campus and was attended by 25 participants from India, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
In both India and East Africa, the informal dairy sector handles 70 to 90% of marketed milk. In both these regions, the informal dairy sector is a major source of employment and offers a low-cost, nutritive product to poor consumers as also market linkages for small producers from low producing regions of the country. Innovative approaches towards upgrading the informal dairy sector continue to be explored, with a view to improving the quality and safety of milk sold. Dr. Joseph and Rupa presented a case study based on CALPI’s path breaking work on the Traditional Milk Sector in India and the key issues facing the informal dairy sector – including governance, quality assurance and value addition. The presentations are available at https://sites.google.com/a/cgxchange.org/southsouthdairysymposium2009/home/presentations
